We're going to the World Cup! Where is it again? A third of Britons can't find Brazil on a map (and 2% think they speak 'MEXICAN'!)

The World Cup is about to kick of and Brazil fever has taken hold. But that doesn't mean Britons actually know where it is.

More than 30 per cent of fans can't pick out the South American country on a map.

And 54 per cent are unaware than Brazilians speak Portuguese, according to a new survey.

Of the 2,000 people polled, one per cent mistook Brazil for China on a map, despite it being on the other side of the world.

The country Brazil was most mistaken for was Argentina, while geographically-challenged Britons also thought that the home of samba was Peru or Uruguay.

On language, as many as 28 per cent reckoned Brazilians spoke Spanish, while 15 per cent assumed that in Brazil the locals spoke... Brazilian - which doesn't actually exist.

In addition, two per cent thought they spoke Mexican and one per cent plumped for them speaking English.

Kate Hopcraft, of Hotels.com, said: 'It's interesting to see so many Brits unable to pinpoint Brazil, which has to be the most talked-about country of the moment.

'There's so much more to Brazil than the "beautiful game". It's baffling to find so many are unaware of its location.'
