Website of the Week: www.hotelchatter.com
Want to know in which hotel Lindsay Lohan, or Mel B, or Ashley Cole, have been spotted partying recently? Or where Tiger Woods got married (and the cost of the reception)? Then the webzine (online magazine) www.hotelchatter.com will reveal all.
It is also a mine of information on the latest hotel openings and trends, and there are lots of reviews posted by the editors.
Hotelchatter.com helps you get the inside track on the hotel world
Strengths
Great for browsing. The stories are well written, and hold few punches - if openings are delayed, or introductory rates are not worth having, or rooms are pokey or overpriced, then the hotels are given stick.
Of particular interest are the annual wifi reports, which highlight some hotels for their enlightened policies, and name and shame others for their outrageous charges.
I also like the annual Best Geek Hotels round ups: this year's selection include the Algonquin in New York, which offers guests free use of Amazon Kindles (electronic books), and the Mama Shelter in Paris, which has booths in which your picture is taken and then posted up on wall-mounted TVs.
Weaknesses
Appallingly laid out - the only way to find anything effectively is to use the search box. And while HotelChatter has a global reach, it does have a strong US bias.
