Website of the week: www.discover-cruises.co.uk
With dozens of cruise lines, hundreds of ships and itineraries, and cruises to suit all types of passenger and budget, finding the right holiday afloat can be a daunting task.
One guide through the maze of options is www.discover-cruises.co.uk, the website for the Passenger Shipping Association, which has been relaunched this week.
The new-look cruise website from the PSA is worth a look, says Fred
STRENGTHS
The new-look website is well designed, easy to find your way around, and packed with useful detail. There are helpful sections pitched at first-time cruisers covering commonly asked questions and cruising myths, and clear summaries of the all the different styles of cruising (mini breaks, adventure, river, no-fly cruises etc), and which cruise line offers each.
Useful new features include a map-based destination search, which highlights the appeal of different cruise regions and which cruise lines lay on holidays there, and a facility for finding a travel agent with cruise expertise near where you live.
WEAKNESSES
The Passenger Shipping Association is a trade body, so the website is relentlessly positive about cruising, and it won't give you hard-hitting judgements on whether one cruise line is better than another, or which ships are best (turn to www.cruisecritic.co.uk for that). Also, you're only told about PSA members - while most options are covered, there are omissions, such as the Disney Cruise Line.
