Jamie Murray yesterday pledged to join forces with his brother Andy to offer Tim Henman the perfect retirement gift at Wimbledon.
Murray, who left the All England
Club as a Wimbledon champion
two months ago, returns to No 1
Court to play for Britain in the
Davis Cup tie against Croatia that
will be Henman's farewell appearance.
"Tim was an inspiration to me and
Andy, a role model, and we both
owe him so much," said Murray.
Henmania will grip Wimbledon
for one last time as No 1 Court's
11,200 seats have been sold for all
three days of the tie, beginning on
Friday, September 21.
"It's going to
be an emotional occasion and we
want to give Tim a great send-off
as British fans turn out to see him
for one more time," said Murray. "It's
no less than Tim deserves."
Murray, who won the Wimbledon mixed doubles championship with
Jelena Jankovic, is assured of a rapturous
reception when he plays in
the critical doubles rubber with
either his brother or Henman.
He has enjoyed a dream summer,
reaching the semi-finals of
the US Open with Liezel
Huber, in contrast to the
misery endured by Andy,
who has spent the past
four months recovering
from a wrist injury.
"The Davis Cup
tie can be the
highlight of
Andy's year," said Murray, who will join his

said Murray, who will
join his

Henman in the continuing
rise of
one of
his closest
friends on the circuit, Novak
Djokovic.
The Serb might have a
future in impersonations, but more
importantly he justified his rise into
the world's top three by reaching
his third straight Grand Slam semifinal
at the US Open,beating Carlos
Moya 6-4, 7-6 (7), 6-1.
Popular on YouTube for his imitations
of players, and egged on by
the Flushing Meadows crowd,
Djokovic showed he had a talent
for more than tennis after he won
his quarter-final.
Dancing a little jig and preening
his hair, he did a dead-on rendition
of Maria Sharapova.Tugging at his
shorts, he nailed Rafael Nadal.
"Obviously, the people are looking
for that. They're looking for a good
tennis player and a player with a
lot of emotions and a lot of temperament
and personality," he said.
"My goal is to be No 1 player of the
world. I've been working for that all
my life. I'm just 20, so I have time."
