Sinfield pledges future to Leeds

Leeds Rhinos skipper Kevin Sinfield has revealed he would like to stay at

Headingley Carnegie for the rest of his career.

The 26-year-old has previously attracted interest from Guinness Premiership

clubs but says he is not interested in switching from league to union.

Sinfield will go head to head with Bradford's Gloucester-bound Lesley Vainikolo

on Friday, a derby clash that will the Bulls winger make his final appearance in

Super League.

Sinfield, who illustrated his versatility with a stellar display at stand-off

in Great Britain's 42-14 Frontline Test victory against France last week, has

previously turned down lucrative offers from Premiership clubs.

The 26-year-old loose forward said: "I've got a year left on my contract at

Leeds, I'm very happy here and I don't want to go anywhere.

"I'd never say never, and if the opportunity arises in the past then you never

know, but I'd like to finish my career here. I'm very happy at Leeds."

A 22,000 sell-out crowd is expected for the derby clash which will see

Vainikolo come under the spotlight in his final Super League game.

The giant winger, nicknamed 'The Volcano', will join Gloucester next week - but

not before trying to add to his remarkable tally of 148 tries in 151 appearances

for the club.

Sinfield added: "I wish we didn't have to face Les on Friday - I wish he'd

gone to Gloucester already!

"But what a legend he's been for the game and I think he will fare very

similarly in union to how he's done in league.

"It's a great move for him and, though it may take a bit of time to get used

to it, with ball in hand I think he'll be devastating."

Vainikolo's bulldozing runs down Bradford's left flank, intimidating and

inspiring in equal measure, are legendary.

And according to Sinfield, Premiership defences will also struggle to cope with

the former Canberra Raiders man.

"I don't know whether Premiership defences will be able to handle him," said

Sinfield.

"Playing on the wing should help Les. When you play in the pack and move from

league to union then it's very, very difficult.

"But the further you're out on the fringes then the easier it should be."
