Henry Cecil has refused to
commit Twice Over to the
2,000 Guineas despite a win
in Thursday's Craven
Stakes at Newmarket that
earmarked him as a threat
to favourite New Approach.
Slashed to a best-priced 6-1
for next month's feature
after rallying to beat
Raven's Pass by a short
head over the Classic's
course and distance, Cecil
voiced fears that the
Khaled Abdullah-owned
colt needed further to fulfil
his potential.
Cecil said: 'I'm not sure that
he isn't more of a
mile-and-a-quarter Dante
Stakes horse but he has done everything right and,
if you take the second
away, he has won very
easily. I'll discuss it with the
Prince, but I don't want to
ruin him.'
Lord Grimthorpe, racing
manager to the owner,
added: 'It is difficult if you
win a Guineas trial not to
go for the Guineas, but the
future of the horse also has
to be a consideration.'
Whether Twice Over runs
could depend on how the
same owner's Confront
performs in Saturday's Greenham Stakes.
