Trainer Rodney Farrant was fined £1,000 at Brighton yesterday after failing to put in place a saddle cloth carrying 12lb of lead during the saddling process.
The mistake led to the
disqualification of
Princely Ted, 3-1 favourite
and runner-up to
Cheveley Flyer in the
Blakes Butchers Handicap
when ridden by
apprentice William Buick.
Farrant admitted his
mistake. With Buick being
so light, the trainer said
the weight of the saddle
had misled him and made
him believe the missing
lead was in place.
With
confusion over the
stewards' inquiry, some
each-way backers of
Princely Ted were paid
out on course.
THE Blue Square Nassau
Stakes at Glorious
Goodwood on August 4
could feature a clash
between Oaks winners
Light Shift and Peeping
Fawn plus Speciosa and
French filly Mandesha.
THE Tote, the subject of
a £400m sale to racing,
returned impressive
figures for the year
ending April 2007 with net
profits of £26.8m, a rise of
13.6 per cent.
