Doyle's new job crowned by Kingman, still unbeaten after Solario romp
James Doyle earned an immediate bonus on Kingman at Sandown on his first day in his new job as retained jockey for Prince Khalid Abdullah.
Kingman took the Group Three Betfred Mobile Solario Stakes in a sparkling manner, which saw his odds for next year's 2000 Guineas slashed across the board with Bet Victor shorted at 7-2.
Unbeaten: Kingman and James Doyle took the Solario Stakes with ease
Doyle, 25, can hardly believe his luck at landing such a high-profile job in mid-season. Further ahead, he can expect a conveyor belt of rides in the best races, with Kingman looking a candidate for Classic glory in 2014.
He was clearly impressed by his first attempt in the famous pink, white and green silks of Abdullah as Kingman dashed past a duo of Godolphin's better two-year-olds.
Doyle said: 'I was very pleased with him, he showed a great attitude and has a good stride but it was a bit of a messy race as we didn't go fast at all and I was almost breaking his stride early on so I let him lengthen in the straight.
'He showed me all the credentials to be a top performer.
'He hasn't got much racing experience and it was only his second run, but even if they did go slow it wasn't a worry as he has such a good turn of foot.
Derby doubts: Lord Grimthorpe cast doubts over Kingman's stamina for Epsom
'Kingman's got a great temperament, seemed very relaxed and produced a good turn of foot. Though it was a bit of a messy race, he showed me all the right credentials to be a top performer.'
But while his ability to stay the Guineas mile looks certain, Khalid Abdullah's racing manager Lord Grimthorpe warned punters that he may lack the stamina to stay the mile and a half Derby trip.
Grimthorpe said in John Gosden's absence: 'When he was asked to quicken he quickened really nicely and that's the most important thing. Today was part of his long education.
'James was very happy. I think from everybody's point of view we have to be very pleased.
'We have to aim a bit higher now, and that would include the Jean-Luc Lagardere or the Dewhurst I would think.
'John has him in the Racing Post Trophy, but I would think the Dewhurst would be the main option.'
But Grimthorpe issued a veiled warning for punters who were quick to snap up odds of 14-1 with William Hill for next year's Derby.
'I would think a mile, mile and a quarter would be the limit of him next year,' he added.
Integral and Ladys First dead-heated in the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Atalanta Stakes.
Sir Michael Stoute's Integral (13-8 favourite) kicked clear over a furlong out under Ryan Moore and appeared to have done enough but Richard Fahey's four-year-old fought back tenaciously under Tony Hamilton.
Ladys First (7-1) got back in front 100 yards from the line but Integral kept on finding under Moore to draw back level in the final strides.
Close call: Ladys First (left) and Integral (right) flash past the post together
Godolphin's previously unbeaten Zibelina was fourth, just behind Shuruq.
Stoute said: 'The other horse is admirably consistent and I thought she had us beaten so I'm happy to share the prize.
'I was scared of the Godolphin filly so I'm relieved really as Ryan went too early, he said he messed up.
'She's still a bit immature, she proved that in the Nassau, so she's just learning her trade but she has a lot of talent.
'It's too early to say where she'll go but I'll contemplate running her in the Sun Chariot.'
Hamilton said: 'I thought Ryan had got me but my filly is very brave, she's run a lot of big races this year and it's great she has won a Group Three.
'I'm very pleased for the owners who have waited a long time for this.'
Cosy win: Burning Thread and Adam Beschizza on their way to victory
Burning Thread never allowed his rivals a look-in as he struck for Tim Etherington and Adam Beschizza in the Betfred Goals Galore Handicap.
Malton-based Ethington had to help the sprinter with his issues in the stalls but he bounced away and put the event to bed at halfway, eventually winning by two lengths.
The 7-1 shot had landed the Listed Scurry Stakes over course and distance three years ago but Etherington said: 'He had an injury at the end of his three-year-old career and it really knocked his confidence.
'To help him in the stalls, I have to take the blind off very slowly, and he's fine.
'I'd love to take him to the Portland Handicap but even five and a half furlongs at Doncaster is stretching him.'
