Teen Prince is king for a day at Wolverhampton
Philip Prince, the teenager born without his left ear, won on his second ride at Wolverhampton on Monday.
After being made to wait a year before he was granted by a licence by the BHA, he gave a skilful ride to come wide and claim a neck victory on the Ron Hodges-trained Miss Firefly (5-1) in the first division of the Amateur Riders’ Handicap.

He said: ‘That’s a fantastic thrill. I had 30 winners from 60 rides in three years on the pony circuit and have worked for Paul Nicholls and Ron Hodges, and am now with Mick Channon’s yard.
‘I was denied a licence 12 months ago because of being deaf on one side, but the Professional Jockeys’ Association have been a big help.’
Doncaster will stage eight races on Saturday to compensate for losing last weekend’s card to the weather. The Lightning Novices’ Chase and Mares’ Hurdle have both been rescheduled for the meeting.
Meanwhile, snow is threatening tomorrow’s Newcastle meeting while Exeter is battling a waterlogging problem.
