The Open 2011 at a glance: Life's not tweet for Ian but Rory's in glove
By SPORTSMAIL REPORTER
Ian Poulter took criticism from fans to heart as he missed the cut by two shots. As he has slipped down the leaderboard the 35-year old tweeted: ‘Ha ha ha reading some of your tweets makes me laugh. Armchair golfers telling me why it didn’t work. I’m sure they are all perfect. Ha ha.’
Start the engines
Lee Westwood was on a private plane at Manston, six miles from Sandwich, when manager Chubby Chandler called to say he might still make the cut. Chandler told him to fly home and he would text if he needed to return. The call never came.

Stars flag at the fourth
The fourth was an early front runner for the title of Open ‘Hell Hole’. Royal St George’s might be forced into a rethink — last time The Open was there in 2003 it was a par five — but, set up as a 495-yard par four, it was proving the trickiest to negotiate.
Grow for it, Lucas
Lucas Glover started Saturday still in the running to make history ... thanks to his impressive beard. The last player with a full beard to win The Open was 136 years ago when Musselburgh’s Willie Park Snr won at Prestwick.
Beard of all right: Lucas Glover
Shot of the day
Just in Rose at the 495-yard fourth. He was up against the face of a pot bunker at this par four, which used to be a par five, 60 yards short of the green but Rose hit a sand wedge, which horseshoed out of the hole to finish just 18 inches away.
Sandwich fun in the sun
The weather may have played havoc with the trimmed-down field on Saturday but Friday night's 143 cut-line equalled the lowest in the history of The Open.
The figure was matched five times in the Nineties and the highest cutline was 176 in 1899 ... also at Royal St George's.
Casey's toe woe
Like deposed world heavyweight champion David Haye, Paul Casey has been hampered by toe problem this week.
Toe woe: Paul Casey is carrying an injury
He will have an MRI scan on the big toe of his right foot on Monday, having made the cut despite his balance being affected by the pain.
It must be glove: Rory McIlroy wears his father's mitts
All you need is glove
Thick mittens were the order of the day for most of the field on Saturday but not all the players came prepared.
US Open champion Rory McIlroy borrowed a pair that his father Gerry had taken to the course to help protect him against the wind and rain.
Crowds warm to Ed
Edoardo Molinari turned a few heads on Saturday - but not just with the quality of his play.
While his rivals were wrapped up with mittens and waterproofs, the Italian strode out with nothing more than a white T-shirt to protect him from the elements.
Westwood's green envy
Lee Westwood's exit after two days can be explained by his statistics.
The 38-year-old topped the greens-in-regulation with an average of 81 per cent but was 152nd in putting. Only Simon Lilly had a worse time on the greens.
Westwood took 68 putts, while top of the category, Steve Stricker, had 52.
