Celtic pull out of move for defender

Celtic have sent Brazilian defender Coelho back to Corinthians after deciding

against making him their second transfer window signing.

The 24-year-old right-back arrived in Glasgow last Thursday and had been

training with Gordon Strachan's side.

However the arrival of Germany international Andreas Hinkel from Sevilla -

another right-back - appeared to scupper his hopes of a permanent switch to the

Hoops.

Corinthians confirmed the deal had been cancelled today and announced Coelho

had loan offers from other clubs.

Coelho had travelled to Glasgow after Celtic and Corinthians agreed terms in

principle for the transfer, however Strachan's next signing is likely to be

Japanese midfielder Koki Mizuno.
