Beasley upbeat after Rangers debut
Last updated at 13:55 14 July 2007
DaMarcus Beasley needed just 90 minutes to be convinced his move to Rangers can
be a roaring success.
The American has performed in two World Cups for his country, and during his
spell at PSV Eindhoven he featured in the 2005 Champions League semi-final
against AC Milan.

The winger's credentials are almost impeccable, and so, according to Beasley,
are those of Rangers under manager Walter Smith.
Beasley impressed the Rangers coaching staff in last night's 3-0 friendly win
against German minnows Gutersloh, particularly as he had only just joined the
squad following a deserved holiday, having helped the United States win the Gold
Cup last month.
The £700,000 summer signing from PSV said: "It was my third day with Rangers.
My first training, my first game. That was good.
"The team has a lot of quality and it is fun to play with these guys.
"Hopefully as the days and weeks and months go by we will get better."
With eight new senior players at Rangers, the squad are getting used to
different faces.
Being among the most recent of the fresh faces to arrive has given Beasley
plenty to absorb in a short time.
He expects the squad to be fully acquainted before the Champions League
qualifier against Zeta or FBK Kaunas on July 31.
"At the moment maybe everyone is a bit unorganised, but this is pre-season. It
will be fine," assured the 25-year-old.
Rangers named 10 substitutes against Gutersloh but decided to keep the starting
XI on the pitch for the full match.
"It is not unusual that there were no substitutions because we have got a big
squad," said Beasley.
"Everyone wants to play. The fitness training is good for me and for everyone.
We all want to get as many minutes on the pitch as possible."
Despite Beasley's eagerness, tomorrow's match against SV Lippstadt will see
last night's team standing down and an entirely different line-up taking their
place, with the plan again for the starting XI to play the whole game.
That could mean debuts for the likes of Lee McCulloch, Carlos Cuellar and
Jean-Claude Darcheville.
Rangers will then select the top performers from the two games for Tuesday's
match against Bundesliga side Hannover, which should provide a more serious
test.
Beasley is eager to be involved against Hannover, not least because his fellow
US international Steven Cherundolo is expected to be in the opposition line-up.
"I will probably call Steven Cherundolo today and see how he is doing," said
Beasley.
"We will speak soon. I am familiar with the stadium in Hannover and definitely
familiar with Steven.
"As he plays on the right side and I on the left we will probably meet, so
this will be fun. I wish him all the best."
