Southend were brought back
down to earth as the struggle to
find a league win continued
against high-flying Preston.
Hoping to build on their Carling
Cup heroics, Southend proved
unable to stop their winless league
run reaching 13 games.
Manager Steve Tilson said: "The
biggest plus was that we kept a
clean sheet for the second game
and if you do that you give
yourself a platform to build on."
Efe Sodje went close for Southend
but his shot was headed off the line
by Matty Hill, while midweek
hero Freddy Eastwood hit the bar.
