Broad hint for dad over tour

Stuart Broad has
asked his father Chris to
keep his opinions about
his England future to
himself.
After the 21-year-old's
man-of-the-match
display in the fourth
one-day against India at
Old Trafford, his father, a
former England opener,
reacted with caution to
calls for his son to be
included in the squad for
the Test tour to Sri
Lanka, saying: "Would
you take a young bowler
like that to carry the
drinks?"
But Stuart yesterday
begged to differ, strongly.
"I'd have to disagree with
him on that," he said.
"Jeez, I want to be on an
England tour. My focus is
getting on a Test tour and
getting in that Test team.
"Every time I get a bat or
ball in my hand it's a
chance to impress, to take
wickets or score runs and
push for every cricketer's
dream — to play Test
cricket. I'm dying to play
at the highest standard.
"I've been close on three
occasions but it's the
hardest thing to drive
away from a Test ground
on the morning of a game
and know you're not
picked.
"I want to test myself at
that level as soon as
possible. I'm not going to
say: “Nah — I don't want
to go on a Test tour',
whatever Dad thinks."
