Panesar: They struggled to keep up with me when I got Sachin!

I am not sure if it felt as good getting Sachin Tendulkar out at Lord's as it did in India last year for my first Test wicket, but my celebration was even better — maybe the best
yet.
It was as if I lost my mind. I
honestly didn't know what
was going on. I just started
running and it felt like I was
flying somewhere.

The only thing I can
remember is hugging
everyone. Afterwards, all I
could think to myself was:
"Did I really do that?" I
haven't had the chance to
see a replay of the
celebration but my friends
told me that I just went
crazy.
I was just savouring the
moment and the reason I
reacted like that was
because he is such a great
player.
That is the impact he has on
people. I wouldn't have run
so far and jumped around like that if he wasn't so good.
Tendulkar didn't get many
runs in that second innings,
but he produced some great
shots before I got him out.
One drive he played off me
was absolutely awesome.
Most batsmen would have
defended the ball but he just
put it away. There was also a
back-foot drive which was
fantastic.
Even though I am playing
against him, I still think
'Wow' when he does
something like that.
But then
I suddenly think: 'Come on,
get back to your mark and
concentrate, you're meant
to be getting this guy out.'
I have to remind myself that
he is an opponent, not
someone whose shots I can
just stand and admire.
The ball that got him, I really
felt it was a close shout and
on the replays it looked out. I
was so pleased and so
excited.
Overall, I was pleased with
how I bowled at Lord's — my
rhythm felt good. I realise
that in this series, it will be
tougher for me to get
wickets than it was against
the West Indies. The India guys are such skilful players
against spin.
They don't try to smash me
out of the attack because
they don't need to. Their
batsmen are so good at
manoeuvring the ball
around that they can just
settle for doing that, then hit
out from time to time.
I'm
sure, if necessary, they could
go after me as well, but they
didn't really do that at Lord's.
From an England point of
view, it was so disappointing
to finish the match with a
draw when we could have
won. But when you take all
the near-misses we had into
account and the rain, you
just have to accept that it
wasn't meant to be. The
person upstairs obviously
didn't want there to be a
result in this game.
I didn't have a lot of luck at
times. It was so frustrating to
see one delivery to Dhoni
just miss the top of offstump.
It was very, very
close to being another one
of those special balls, like the
ones I bowled to Younis Khan
last year and Dinesh Ramdin
earlier this summer.
As for the leg-before appeal
I had against Sreesanth just
before we went off — that
was so close, I thought it was
a good shout. I don't want to
sound too biased but I
thought I had a good chance
of getting the decision.
But I don't want to complain
because the umpires made
some great decisions during
the game.
As I walked back
to my mark I asked Steve
Bucknor: 'How come that
wasn't out?' and he said he
felt the ball might have
missed off-stump. So in the
end it was a case of 'What if?'
for me and the whole team.
We all had a break yesterday,
and I took part in Paul
Collingwood's benefit golf
day. I have been practising
my swing on my Nintendo
Wii, but I'm not the best at
'real' golf to be honest.
All I
will say is that I didn't do
very well. Maybe I'll stick to
the computer version.
Next stop is Trent Bridge and
I am preparing myself to be
very patient there, because
you don't get the bounce as
the wickets always seem
quite flat.
But I will keep
plugging away and hopefully
I'll get a bit more luck there.
