Bumbles world

THE GOOD
I HAVE seen some devastating strokeplay in
Twenty20. Young 'uns are having a real go and
little-known players have caught my eye.
Nottinghamshire's Samit Patel was awesome
against Lancashire with 84 off 57 deliveries and
Chris Gilbert played brilliantly for Yorkshire
against Leicestershire, for whom David Masters
was outstanding with a clinical spell of medium
pace bowling. Lancashire's young wicketkeeper,
Gareth Cross, looks a great prospect with bat
and gloves.

THE BAD
PAUL Collingwood says England will play attacking
cricket in the one-dayers and he wants to take the team to another level. I
wonder which level we are moving up
from. Let's hope we whack it at the top, work it in
the middle and belt it at the end; field like
demons and bowl straight. Simple.
AND THE UGLY
YOU may have seen the player profiles on TV for
the Twenty20 matches. You know: favourite food,
favourite band, best film and who would you like
to meet? The commentators have been asked the
same. The person I would like to meet is the
geezer who has just pinched my lawnmower.
I would introduce him to an associate of mine,
'Mad George', and then we would see how much
gardening he could do after that. Any information
will be treated in the utmost confidence.
AND MY WORLD...
WHAT an honour it was to be
at the memorial service and
celebration of the life of our
Sportsmail colleague Ian
Wooldridge. The man was a
legend of our profession,
probably the best there has
ever been, and the most
delightful and modest man
to work with. The incredible
turn-out of distinguished
figures from sport, politics,
entertainment and
journalism at the Guards
Chapel in London on Tuesday
said it all. There will never be another like him.
