Golf: Oldcorn tribute to his mentor
by DEREK LAWRENSON, Daily Mail
Andy Oldcorn fought back the tears as he celebrated the biggest moment in his golf career.
The 41-year-old Lancashire-born Scot won the PGA Championship at Wentworth yesterday after seeing off the challenge of a revitalised Nick Faldo.
Then, as he held aloft the trophy, he dedicated his victory to his former manager and close friend Alan Maxwell, who died two months ago from cancer.
Oldcorn, whose career has been blighted by the debilitating ME virus, said: 'It might sound corny, but I felt his presence out there. Alan was my guiding light, one of the friends who never lost sight of the fact that a day like this would come for me.'
