Murray: I have a good chance in Masters
Last updated at 15:57 13 March 2007
Andy Murray admits he is one of the favourites to win his first Masters Series event in Indian Wells this week.
Murray faces a tough fourth round opponent in world number four Nikolay
Davydenko, who overcame Tim Henman's conqueror Jan Hernych in the third round.
But the tournament has been blown wide open by the shock early exit of world
number one Roger Federer, and British number one Murray is firmly in contention
for his second title of the season.
"There's a few guys that have got a great chance of winning it," the
19-year-old from Dunblane said.
"(Rafael) Nadal on these courts and this sort of heat is going to be tough to
play against. (Andy) Roddick's playing well again.
"There's quite a lot of the high seeds left in it. I wouldn't say there's one
in particular, but there's a lot of guys that have a good chance of winning.
"I'd say I'm one of the favourites to win. You never know what happens in
these sort of tournaments. Draws can open up and you just have to take your
chances.
"I've played well so far. I'll just try and focus on my next match."
Davydenko has won two of the three previous meetings between the pair, but
Murray won the most recent contest in straight sets in Doha earlier this year.
"I think I have to start off playing my own game, using my slice and angles
and trying to bring him into the net a little bit," Murray added.
"But every match I play against him, I've had to change tack a little bit
throughout.
"Sometimes against him you have to play more aggressive because if you do
give him chances to dictate, he can make you do a lot of running. And obviously
in these conditions, it's not the best thing to be doing.
"I'll have to play a bit more aggressive."
