Football: FIFA set to punish Albania
FIFA today confirmed that Albania face disciplinary action after England debutant Ashley Cole was struck by a missile during the World Cup qualifier in Tirana.
Cole was struck while celebrating namesake Andy's goal in the final minute of injury time.
FIFA communications director Keith Cooper said: "The incident was mentioned in the reports of both the commissioner match observer and the referee. We will now investigate the matter further."
It is virtually certain that the case will be brought before FIFA's disciplinary body on April 26. Albania are likely to be fined as a result.
Defender Rio Ferdinand has revealed that rocks, bottles and cigarette lighters were all hurled as England players during the incident, but Arsenal full-back Cole was the only one struck.
