Saints likely to go for Keegan
by IAN COLE, Daily Mail
Kevin Keegan will be top of the list when Southampton look to replace Glenn Hoddle.
The former England coach played for Southampton after Lawrie McMenemy persuaded the European Footballer of the Year to cut short his spell at Hamburg in July 1980.
Despite moving to Newcastle two years later, Keegan continued to live in the New Forest and developed an affinity for the area before eventually moving to the north-east when he managed the St James' Park club.
He has kept a low profile since resigning as England coach in October but made a rare public appearance at Doncaster racecourse last weekend, when he made the draw for the Lincolnshire Handicap.
He said there were Saturdays when he thought he might still be managing but, temptingly for Saints chairman Rupert Lowe, Keegan added: 'I have never applied for a job in my life.'
