Philippoussis thunders through
Unseeded Mark Philippoussis has reached Sunday's men's final with a victory over Sebastien Grosjean, the 13th seed from France.
The Australian advanced to his first Wimbledon final Friday, winning every service game and overpowering Sebastien Grosjean 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, 6-3.
It will be his second Grand Slam final after being the runner-up at the 1998 US Open. But since then he has had a knee injury that required three operations in 2000-01 and nearly ended his career.
Philippoussis' opponent on Sunday will be the winner of the second semi-final Friday between No. 5-seeded Andy Roddick and No. 4 Roger Federer.
Hitting serves at up to 131 mph (210 kph), Philippoussis totaled a modest 11 aces, raising his total for the tournament to 164 in six matches. He volleyed well coming to the net behind most of his serves, and 37 weren't returned by Grosjean.
The longest rally on Philippoussis' serve was five shots, and he faced only two break points.
Yesterday, Grosjean put an end to British number 1 Tim Henman's dreams as he beat him 7-6 3-6 6-3 6-4.
