Call for Carl to be skipper
A campaign has been launched in the Caribbean to sack Jimmy Adams as the West Indian captain and bring back former Kent star Carl Hooper.
Adams was in charge during the 5-0 whitewash in Australia and critics at home have savaged his captaincy. But instead of considering vice-captain Sherwin Campbell, the selectors are having another look at the credentials of 34-year-old Hooper.
Hooper, who recently scored 150 for his adopted Trinidad against Barbados, has now built a new life after a disastrous time playing grade cricket in Australia.
His weight ballooned to more than 16 stone after the England tour of the West Indies two years ago and he was dropped from the Test side.
Meanwhile, a century stand from Ricky Ponting and Mark Waugh put Australia in a strong position at 149 for three after 32 overs of their one-day international against the West Indies in Melbourne today.
Waugh was caught by Wavell Hinds off the bowling of Laurie Williams for 51 at 118 for two in the 25th over. Waugh and Ponting had added 111 for the second wicket off 134 balls in 84 minutes.
