Badminton: Vaughan has easy win
Richard Vaughan, the highest-ranked player from the home nations in the men's singles, got off to a winning start today.
He romped to an easy 7-2 7-0 7-2 victory over Eli Mambwe of Zambia at the Bolton Arena.
The fourth seed from Wales said: "We seem to have been here a long time, so it was nice to get going.
"It was an easy game to start with as well. He wasn't the worst player around, he was okay, and I could have a rally.
"I am aware the biggest tests are to come when you play good people and are under pressure.
"My ambition is try and reach the semi-finals, where I will be assured of a medal."
Colin Haughton, who picked up a gold medal for England last night in the mixed team event, also recorded a comfortable victory in the singles.
Barely 12 hours after helping England defeat Singapore he was back on court.
Haughton, the seventh seed, hardly had to stretch himself romping to a 7-1 7-4 7-3 victory over Nigeria's Dimbo Odejoke.
England team-mate Mark Constable, the 11th seed, did not have to break sweat in his rout of Doug Clark from the Falkland Islands 7-0 7-0 7-0.
Martyn Lewis of Wales secured a meeting with top seed Choong Hann Wong of Malaysia later today after beating Singapore's Kendrick Lee.
