Ferdinand: England will win a trophy
Rio Ferdinand has vowed to help bring back a major title to England within the next four years.
The Leeds defender emerged with great credit from this summer's World Cup campaign, as England reached the quarter-finals before bowing out to Brazil.
And he insists Sven-Goran Eriksson's young side "can only get better" as they look to win some silverware in the coming years.
"We will definitely be in a final in the next four years - whether it's the European Championships in Portugal in two years or the World Cup in Germany," Ferdinand told The Sun.
"Once you're in the final, you have to win the cup and this team is capable of doing it. With a fully fit squad, there is no limit to what we can achieve.
"We have some of the best players in the world and this World Cup has proved how close we are.
"The team has made a lot of progress under Sven-Goran Eriksson and it can only get better."
As for his own future at club level, Ferdinand is adamant that he will only leave Leeds if the Elland Road outfit show a desire to sell him.
The 23-year-old has been linked with a £35million switch to Manchester United following his impressive displays in the Far East.
But he said: "I've heard all the speculation about me possibly leaving and as far as I'm concerned it's up to Leeds.
"If they want to keep me I will be staying, if they decide to sell me that's different.
"I'm planning to go on my holidays and just intend to relax."
