HOW DOES NASA'S SPACECRAFT AR APP WORK?
Spacecraft AR allows users to see 3D representations of NASA technology in their homes
NASA's new app, Spacecraft AR, was designed jointly by Google and the agency's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.
The app allows users to view spacecraft from basically any location as long as they have an Android device.
All they need is a flat surface to use the app. NASA said the company is working on making the technology available for iOS users.
Currently, the following are available on the app: NASA's Curiosity Mars rover, Juno, Cassini and Voyager.
'Users can check out the giant, 70-meter NASA Deep Space Network dish. More spacecraft are planned in future updates to the app,' a NASA statement said.
To access the 3D representations users simply swipe through the app to select a mission that observes and explores Mars, Earth or other planets.
Users pick the spacecraft they want to see before the app detects the flat surface needed for it to work.
