The U.S. release of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds mobile version now goes head-to-head with the juggernaut that is Fortnite Battle Royale. That game is a favorite of celebrities like Drake and Travis Scott, with a massive celebrity game even planned for this year’s E3 event. Although an Android version of Fortnite Battle Royale is not yet available, the iOS version has already proven to be phenomenally popular.
What is PUBG?
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is a multiplayer battle royale action game developed by the PUBG Corporation and published by the PUBG Corporation for Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Studios for Xbox One and Tencent Games for mobile devices.
Gameplay involves up to 100 players dropping onto a map to find weapons, defeat enemy players and avoid dying themselves. A designated safe area of the map steadily shrinks in size over time, forcing players to fight each other more frequently as time progresses. The last player standing is the ultimate winner of the match.
The game was originally released via Steam Early Access in March 2017 before a full release for Xbox One on December 12, 2017 and Microsoft Windows on December 20, 2017. Android and iOS versions were released in China on February 9 2018 and worldwide on March 19, 2018.
The game’s Microsoft Windows version has old over 30 million copies while its Xbox One version has sold in excess of five million copies.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has also garnered positive reviews from critics and gamers alike and is just one of many popular new battle royale video games released within the past few months both in the United States and around the world.
