Instagram now blurs 'sensitive content' even if it sticks to the company's guidelines
- Instagram already outright blocks pornography and other explicit content
- But now it is censoring any content flagged as 'offensive' by other users
- Users will have to tap an acknowledgement to remove the block on each photo
- Instagram has also introduced two-step verification logins for its app
Instagram has begun blurring out 'sensitive content' even if it sticks to the company's rules on offensive content.
Instagram already blocks outright pornography and other graphic content that does not adhere to its community guidelines.
But now it is adding a blurred block with a 'sensitive content' warning on top of posts that have been marked as offensive by users.

Instagram is adding a blurred block with a 'sensitive content' warning on top of posts that have been marked as offensive by users (centre and left images). It has also added two-step verification to the login process, which can be switched on in the settings page (right image)
This will only happen on posts inoffensive enough that they do not merit being taken down by the site.
The step will be added even for users who aren't worried about being shown sensitive content.
Those who wish to opt out will have to tap an acknowledgement on each blurred photo or video.
'This photo contains sensitive content which some people may find offensive or disturbing,' the warning message reads.
The blurred view will show up in grid and list modes of the app.
Instagram claims that the feature will stop 'surprising or unwanted experiences'.
Two-step verification can be enabled by selecting the gear icon on the profile page and enabling the option to 'Require Security Code' under 'Two-Factor Authentication.' Users will be asked for that code as well as their password whenever they sign in to the app (stock image)
The company is likely attempting to balance maintaining open community guidelines with a 'safe' experience for all users.
Instagram has also announced the release of two-step login verification on its app to all users.
The security feature had previously only been released to a small number of users as a trial.
It adds an extra layer of security to protect user accounts from malicious intruders or hackers.
Two-step verification can be enabled by selecting the gear icon on profile page and enabling the option to 'Require Security Code' under 'Two-Factor Authentication.'
Users will then be asked for that code as well as their password whenever they sign in to the app.
