Hulu was down across US as users reported issues with video streaming

Hulu was down for thousands of users across the US on Tuesday.

Downdetector, a site that monitors online outages, showed issues hit the platform around 9am ET, but the platform was up and running about three hours later.

Users cited problems with the server connection, app and video streaming.

Many Hulu subscribers were shown a white screen on the desktop site that reads: 'Error 503 healthy backends.'

Downdetector's outage map showed Boston, New York city, Minneapolis, Chicago, Dallas and Los Angeles among the major cities experiencing issues with the service.

As of December 2024, Hulu had approximately 53 million paid subscribers in the US.

One frustrated user posted on X: 'What a surprise. Hulu easily is the most technically flawed streaming service. Frequently down & requires relogging in at least once a month.'

Because of the outage, many users also noted they could not log into their Disney+ accounts.

Others are outraged about missing out on shows like 'The Handmaid's Tale' Season 6 that hit the platform at 12am ET Tuesday.

'Hulu going down as soon as Handmaids Tale drops…. coincidence?' one user shared on X.

Many people believed the outage was sparked by everyone trying to watch the new season.
