Richard, who has worked for the Daily Mail since 1980, spent years as a globe-trotting feature writer, reporting on everything from the Brixton riots and the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana to The Troubles in Northern Ireland and the first Gulf War. He also devoted 20 years to writing about the Royal Family and his coverage of Princess Diana's death in 1997 earned him the title Royal Reporter of the Year in the What The Papers Say Awards. He started a 12-year stint as diary editor in 2003 and now writes heavyweight pieces on a wide range of issues.
