Rail union considers more strikes
Rail union leaders were meeting today to decide their next move in a dispute which has crippled services on some of the country's busiest routes.
The executive of the Rail Maritime and Transport union was deciding whether to press ahead with further industrial action following a meeting between union officials and South West Trains managers today.
The company urged the union to postpone a planned 48-hour walkout next Monday and Tuesday to allow negotiations to continue.
SWT services across southern England and into London's busy Waterloo station were crippled for a second day today because of a strike over pay and the disciplining of union members.
The two sides held more than two hours of talks in London.
The union's acting general secretary, Vernon Hince, left the talks to report to the union's executive.
The company said it had now met in full the union's claim for a pay rise of 7.6% over 18 months.
