Social media users have taken fire at Gordon Ramsay after he pledged that he would be donating £10,000 to the NHS if he failed to make a burger within ten minutes.

The TV chef, who has been residing with his family in his second home in Cornwall amid the coronavirus outbreak, took to Instagram this week to tell fans that he would be taking part in a ten-minute burger challenge.

Despite telling viewers at the end of his challenge that his family had in fact already donated the money, some viewers felt the money should have been donated 'regardless' of there being a challenge.

Taking to his Instagram Stories, the chef told viewers: 'Can I just say a very special thank you once to all the NHS staff again for another extraordinary week. All the effort and dedication in extraordinary.'

After failing the task, the chef joked: 'I may not have done it in ten minutes. To be honest the Ramsay's have already donated for an amazing cause. I can't wait to see your burger.'

He also poked fun at suggestions that residents in Cornwall had not been pleased with him and his family isolating there and told viewers he would not be eating the burger himself but instead offering it to his neighbours before comically running out of the house.

He said: 'I'm not going to eat this. I'm going to give it to the neighbours next door. Hopefully that might put a smile on their face.'

Following the challenge, some viewers took to social media to challenge the chef's stunt, with one stating 'he should have donated the money regardless'.

One user wrote: 'Wait, I appreciate your donation, and I really love/like you, but you are a millionaire. Even if your restaurants are closed right now. But 10k pounds? That's it?'

While another added: 'I agree...@GordonRamsay should have stayed in London. The burger challenge was a publicity stunt. He should have donated the money regardless...#StayHome.'

Another person said: 'You should donate regardless of cooking burger in ten minutes. That is not even a challenge for a cook let alone a chef.'

Meanwhile another viewer wrote: 'Come on @Gordon Ramsay!! @captaintommoore has served in WW2 and has raised millions for the amazing @nhs and you offer £10k???'

And another added: 'Why wouldn't you give it to the NHS anyway? What's with a challenge to give it? Will be seeing you live tomorrow!! Look forward to it anyway!!'

The challenge comes just weeks after reports emerged that nearby villages in Cornwall were reportedly furious with the chef after he moved there with his family in order to isolate amid the ongoing pandemic.

According The Sun, villagers were worried Ramsay may have brought the virus with him from London and even threatened to expose his address if he didn't leave.

However a close friend later told MailOnline: 'The family see Cornwall as their family home when the kids are back from uni and Gordon back from filming around the world it's where they spend all their family time together.

'They've been spending time there for 10 years and Jack actually lives in the house there full time too. Most of their neighbours are so welcoming and they love being part of the community.

'They've been following the government advice along with the rest of the country since they arrived on March 20th and the campaign against them is hurtful and unnecessary at a time when we should all be coming together and supporting each other.'
