Westfield shopping centres are now offering a click-and-collect service to help customers buy clothes, flowers and food while adhering to social distancing rules.

Once shoppers choose their items, they select a time to collect their order and the retailer prepares it for them.

Shoppers can then collect their order at the drive-thru area. Payment is via contact-less card and there are no added fees.

The move comes after the government introduced strict social distancing measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Australians have been urged to avoid any unnecessary travel and stay home as much as possible.

Scentre Group Director of customer experience, Phil McAveety, said the concept was to help cater to customer's demands while adhering to social distancing.

'Westfield Direct is an innovation that we've fast-tracked to provide customers a safe and easy solution to shop the items they need in one transaction – from the comfort of their home – for pick-up via one, contactless stop,' he said.

'Whether that be home-schooling essentials for the family, pantry items or dinner from multiple restaurants, we will continue to adapt Westfield Direct to meet our customers' needs for the times we live in.

'For our retail partners who are still able to trade within government restrictions, Westfield Direct provides a new way for them to continue reaching their customers.'

The retailers involved includes Bakers Delight, Betty's Burgers, Harris Farm, Grill'd, Haigh’s Chocolates, Soul Origin, Boost Juice, Krispy Kreme and Oporto.

Other stores, including  L'Occitane, are planning to join the service in a few weeks.
