This is the hilarious moment a leopard repeatedly tries and fails to capture a porcupine in a bizarre standoff.

Gerrit Meyer was driving in the Kruger National Park in South Africa when he came across the unusual pair.

The video shows the spotted predator following the porcupine in circles on a road.

The porcupine does not appear too bothered by the fearsome cat who keeps making failed attempts to come near it.

The leopard repeatedly jabs its head towards the porcupine but is put off by its sharp quills.

The big cat then even lies on the road trying to avoid the spines as it unsuccessfully darts out a paw in an attempt to catch the porcupine.

Eventually, the resigned leopard sits and looks towards the camera apparently baffled as to how to catch the porcupine

But the rodent appears unfazed by the leopard and keeps walking around in circles.

At one point, the leopard even appears to look directly into the camera seemingly baffled by its opponent.
