PLt. Isidoro Ancero Jr., Culaba Police Chief said the three men had begun drinking together from 8am on Sunday.

Witness Canete said they had fallen asleep on the floor of the house and he was awoken to the sound of a chainsaw engine at around 1pm.

He claims he opened his eyes to see Paje approach the sleeping victim and proceed to severely mutilate him. He died instantly.

Canete jumped out of a window and fled from the house in the village of Bool East, on Biliran island.

Paje was arrested when authorities arrived on the scene and is being detained at Culaba Municipal Police Station.

Paje alleges that he had been sleepwalking and dreaming of cutting down a coconut tree, according to the Manila Bulletin. Lt. Ancero said the witness told him the suspect's eyes were closed while he was carrying out the crime.
