Neighbours said they were forced to ring East Midlands Ambulance Service four times before one eventually arrived at 4pm to give him medical treatment.
A postman had to wait hours for an ambulance after he slipped and 'cracked his ribs' on his postal route in Louth, Lincolnshire
Shocked onlookers brought the man duvets to keep him warm and covered him with an umbrella during the Saturday downpours.
Mark Barford, who lives on the postman's route, said: 'It was pretty shocking how long it took for an ambulance to arrive. He was obviously in a lot of pain and didn't want to use a car or taxi to get to hospital.
'We chased the ambulance four times; it was only on the final call that they said they would classify him as a priority. We didn't want to move him ourselves in case he had spinal injuries - it was disgusting how he was treated.'
The man is believed to have slipped down several steps. He told the people helping him out that he thought he'd broken at least a couple of ribs.
Residents of the street stayed with the man to make sure he was alright.
East Midlands Ambulance Service have been contacted for a comment.
