Man pleads guilty in Coghlan death case
A man today pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of former prostitute Monica Coghlan in a head-on crash.
Gary Day also pleaded guilty to robbery and possessing a firearm when he appeared at Bradford Crown Court this morning.
The 34-year-old from Huddersfield was driving a Jaguar car when it smashed into the blue Ford Fiesta driven by Ms Coghlan who was a central figure in the 1987 libel trial involving Lord Archer, in Scammonden, West Yorkshire on April 26.
She later died from her injuries in hospital.
The crash followed an earlier incident when Day brandished a handgun during a raid on a chemist shop in Birkby, near Huddersfield.
He will be back in court on Friday when he will be sentenced.
The multi-millionaire novelist and former Tory party deputy chairman sued the Daily Star newspaper after it ran an article about him and Ms Coghlan.
Ms Coghlan, 50, was one of seven brothers and sisters.
