Woman dies after falling from 14-storey block of flats

A woman has died falling from a 14-storey tower block.

Emergency services were called to the Molineux Court flats in Byker, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, on Monday evening after reports of 'a person falling from height'.

Buses were diverted from Heaton North View, the road leading to the 14-storey flats, while paramedics and police officers attended the scene.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: 'At 4.30pm today police were called to Molineux Court, Newcastle, after a report that a woman had fallen from the building.

'She was sadly declared dead at the scene. Formal identification is taking place and next of kin are being contacted.'

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: 'We were called to Molineux Court at 4.31pm to reports of a person falling from height.

'We dispatched a rapid response paramedics, a St John ambulance, a helicopter and a hazardous area response team (HART).'

The helicopter and HART crew were later stood down, while paramedics remained near the flats for some time.
