Backpacker, in his 20s, fighting for life after falling from a hostel balcony in Sydney's tourist hotspot

  • The man was taken to St Vincent's Hospital, he is in serious but stable condition

A male backpacker is fighting for life after falling three storeys from a hostel balcony overnight.

The man in his 20s is in a serious condition after losing his balance and falling over a balustrade at a hostel at The Rocks in the heart of Sydney.

Police and emergency services were called to the Cumberland Street hostel just after midnight on Friday.

The man was treated at the scene by New South Wales Ambulance paramedics before being taken to St Vincent's Hospital.

He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition, and police officers from the Sydney City Police Area Command are making inquiries. 

The fall is not being treated as suspicious.
