- Matthew Reville, 32, proposed to Rachel Evans in the House of Commons
- His girlfriend Rachel Evans said yes, as an adoring crowd of tourists looked on
- A nearby tour guide then jokes 'You know it's parliament so he didn't mean it?'
This is the heart-warming moment a man gets down on one knee to propose to his girlfriend on the floor of the House of Commons.
Matthew Reville, 32, from South Norwood, proposed to his girlfriend Rachel Evans, also 32, from Twickenham.
The clip shows Mr Reville get down on one knee while in a grey suit and surrounded by the iconic green seats of parliament.
He then takes Miss Evans hand as she covers her face in shock as Mr Reville tells his girlfriend 'the time we've spent together has been the best period of my life and that I want to share the rest of my life with you.'
She says yes and the couple embrace in a kiss.
The couple are then met with adorning cheers from a crowd of tourists walking through parliament.
Mr Reville works as a civil servant and and Miss Evans as a parliamentary researcher for a Labour MP, so both have close links to politics.
Speaking to the MailOnline, Mr Reville said: 'We are both quite private people, so I thought I'd surprise her with a very public proposal. We told all our family and then a few days later put it on social media to tell friends.
'I proposed in the House of Commons because Rachel works in Parliament and it seemed a suitable place for the biggest event of our lives so far. I asked Rachel to give a tour of the House to a colleague, who was actually there to film the big moment. We couldn't be happier.'
