Egg-streme sports: Norway's Olympic squad accidentally orders 15,000 eggs after asking Google Translate how to say 1,500 in Korean
- Norwegian team accidentally ordered a surplus of 13,500 eggs for this month's Pyeongchang Winter Olympics
- The kitchen crew wrongly translated 1,500 and ended up with 15,000
- Fortunately, the team was able to return most of the eggs
Ordering eggs in Korean turned out to be a lot more difficult than expected for Norway's Olympic team. They accidentally ordered 15,000 eggs instead of 1,500 after an unfortunate Google Translate mishap.
In preparation for this month's Pyeongchang Winter Olympics the Norwegian team was gathering their supplies, the kitchen crew decided to go to a local store to order enough eggs to last the games.
By wrongly translating the number of eggs they ended up with a surplus of 13,500 eggs.
OL-leiren bestilte 1500 egg gjennom å oversette via Google Translate. Men det slo feil. 15.000 ble levert på døra. Vi ønsker lykke til og håper at de norske gullhåpene er glade – veldig glade – i egg: pic.twitter.com/qaWVpq1Xgy

Norwegian chef Tore Ovrebo struggled to suggest what they will do with the delivery, but did not rule out consuming them.
If they did have to consume all the eggs the registered 121-strong delegation of athletes and officials would get plenty of protein, eating 124 eggs each.
'The eggs was more like a misunderstanding than something that we needed, so it was an extra zero on the order, so 1,500 to 15,000,' said chef Ovrebo.
'Fortunately, we could return most of the order, but we were quite surprised when they carried the eggs up to us. There was no end to the delivery. Absolutely unbelievable,' said Chef Ståle Johansen to NTB.

Chef Ovrebo said it was important to enjoy the Games as well as scramble for medals.
'The aim is to have fun, and be as good friends when we go back as when we came here. In the meantime we are hoping for 30 medals.'
While friendship is the aim, it isn't always possible in the fiercely competitive world of Olympic sports. After all, you can't make an omelette without cracking eggs.
