The Queensland Police Service received reports a trailer being towed by a Holden Rodeo had caught fire between Colosseum and Miriam Vale.
Sparks and flames jumped onto the road as the burning trailer travelled north just before 3am, leaving burning debris in its wake.
Police claim the trailer did not have any wheels and was being dragged along the highway.
The intercepting officer activated his car's lights and sirens in an attempt to get the motorist to pull over, police claim, but driver allegedly did not stop.

The driver allegedly pulled over at the intersection of the Bruce Highway and Dovedale Road after travelling about 20 kilometres with the trailer engulfed in flames.
Burning debris was littered across the highway in the trailer's wake, which sparked multiple spot fires in bushland adjoining the highway.
The man will face Bundaberg Magistrates Court on May 17
