This is the moment a man was caught on camera washing his car with a cat instead of a cloth.

The man was filmed laughing as he rubbed down his Mercedes SUV car with the ginger cat.

But the cruel joke looks set to backfire after Russian police saw the video on social media and decided to investigate.

The man grabbed the cat after spotting it asleep under the vehicle outside his home in the Gulkevichsky District of south-western Russia's Krasnodar Krai region.

Holding the moggy by the scruff of its neck, he rubbed its fur on the bonnet of his car to polish the bodywork.

The man then goes on to dip the cat in his wash bucket and use its fur to wipe the car's headlights clean of dirt.

The nasty stunt has backfired though as the police are now investigating after seeing the clip on social media

He and his friend can be heard laughing in the background and commenting that the cat seems to like what is happening to it.

At one point the cat cries out as it is used to polish the lights of the SUV.

But animal lovers were not amused when they saw the footage after it was posted on social media.

Netizen 'Dyadya Dima' said: 'Someone should wipe the car bonnet with the man's own face.'

'Evgeniy Komolov' added: 'Two morons, they are taking out their weakness on an animal.'

'Turuk Makto' commented: 'Motherf**kers. I bet they were bullied when they were kids.'
