Nancy Reagan: America's former First Lady has suffered a fall aged 86
Mrs Reagan, 86, is staying in the same hospital room where former President Ronald Reagan was cared for after he broke his hip at home in 2001.
The family doctor recommended an overnight stay for Mrs Reagan who is taking her first steps to a full recovery, said her spokesman Joanne Drake.
"She's joking and greeting visitors in her room."
Mrs Reagan's last major public appearance was at a debate at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California, three weeks ago.
She and the president were married for 52 years. He died in June 2004 after a ten-year battle with Alzheimer's.
