There's always that one friend who seems to be perpetually on holiday.
But with a little planning, you too can get a number of mini-breaks throughout the year and make the most of your time off.
By carefully choosing which days to request off, you can get the longest holiday – while taking the least number of annual leave days off in 2018.
If you want the make the most of the holiday season before a fresh start in the New Year, get Wednesday December 27 to Friday December 29 to get a total of 10 days off for only three days of leave.

Or since New Year's Day – a public holiday – falls on a Monday in 2018, you could easily have yourself a five-day break by requesting December 29 and January 2 off.
Later on in January, ask for either or both January 25, a Thursday, or January 29, a Monday off, and enjoy a long weekend around Australia Day.
Easter is a great time to take advantage of public holidays.
Good Friday falls on March 30 and Easter Monday is on April 2, so you could get a week-long vacation by requesting only three days on either side.

In Tasmania, Easter Tuesday is also a public day, so you could get a week's vacation with only two days requested off.
Book Friday April 6 off too for a 10-day holiday.
Anzac Day in 2018 falls on Wednesday April 25, so you could take two days leave on April 26 and 27 for a five-day weekend - or take the four weekdays days around the public holiday off and go on a nine-day holiday.
Each state and territory also offers a public holiday for the Queen's Birthday and Labour Day, which vary in terms of dates but all fall on Mondays, guaranteeing two long weekends in the year.
