There were prolonged downpours yesterday – with more than an inch of rain in the South and East – and forecasters warned of a weekend washout, caused by a storm system heading in from the Atlantic.
On today’s weather, Alex Deakin, of the Met Office, said: ‘As we go through the morning, the clouds will bubble up and then we will see showers developing pretty much everywhere.

‘It won’t rain all day, the showers will come and go, blown through on a fairly brisk breeze but when the showers do arrive they could well be heavy, and possibly thundery.’
