A cyclist's helmet camera captured the moment he was forced to climb on a car bonnet after a road rage attack spiralled.

The courier was cycling in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Friday when a red Mitsubishi swerved into his path and he clipped the side of the car. 

After the small crash the cyclist screamed abuse at the driver who then rammed into the back of the bike, crushing the back wheel.

The driver then repeatedly slammed into cyclist, forcing him to climb on the car and cling to the bonnet during the shocking road rage attack. 

Other drivers soon intervened and the driver was forced to get out of his car and face his victim.

The cyclist said the altercation ended when police intervened.

He said: 'I was coming back from a delivery and, as I passed the bike lane, the driver of the red car invaded the lane, pushing me into the corner.

'I went through it without even bumping into his car. I complained and he knocked on my back.

'I got off the bike and he kept moving forward with the car. I stayed on top of the hood until he stopped the car. We all went to the police station shortly after.'
