A suburban Melbourne street is in lockdown and the bomb squad has been called in following a dramatic police raid.

Detectives executed a search warrant in Epping in the city's north on Wednesday morning and are believed to have discovered a suspicious device.

What appeared to be a bomb disposal robot was seen entering a property on Buckland Crescent.

Victoria Police confirmed to Daily Mail Australia the Bomb Disposal Unit was at the scene. 

'As the matter is subject of an ongoing investigation it would be inappropriate to comment further,' a spokesperson said.

A substantial area around the home has been cordoned off.
