- It prompted bosses to send out an official health and safety warning
- The memo has been branded 'bonkers' with incident described as a 'mishap'
The BBC has been slated for a 'bonkers' health and safety warning issued after an employee slipped off a stool.
The worker was sitting in the canteen at the BBC South West Television Centre in Plymouth, Devon, when they fell 'a few inches' off the seat.
It prompted an official memo to be sent around staff by a production editor amid claims the corporation wanted to ward off any compensation claims.

A source inside the BBC said the mishap ended in 'chuckles and banter' but caused concern among bosses once they found out.
An email was then sent announcing an investigation into seating in the canteen was to take place.
It said: 'There's been a little accident this lunchtime, where someone fell off one of the stools.
'While we find out more details - and it's probably a good idea anyway - can I ask that you take care when using the stools, because we don't need someone else hurting themselves as well.'
The reaction to the memo has been to describe it as 'bonkers', with staff saying the worker only slipped 'a few inches' off the stool (file picture)
The source said: 'Bonkers BBC advice to all staff in south west: take care when sitting on a stool.
'It was just a member of staff sitting on a stool in the Plymouth canteen area. Not live on air.
'They slipped off it - prompting the safety warning to beware of stools.'
A BBC Spokesperson said: 'This email was shared with staff to make them aware of a minor incident. We are not investigating it.'
