Fifteen firefighters were called to rescue a hapless cow and its calf after they got stuck in a canal.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: 'A call was received at 10.27am
'Three crews, from Longton, Newcastle-under-Lyme and Leek all attended the incident.

'The cows and their owner were found at the scene, and the animals were stuck in the water.
'The calf was released from the water after officers at the scene used specialist animal rescue equipment, followed by the cow.'
