A P-plate driver has lived to tell the tale of how she drove head on into a one-tonne buffalo.
Kelsey Bissaker, 24, was driving on a remote Northern Territory road near the Adelaide River floodplains at about 1am on June 25 when she came across the huge buffalo in the middle of the road.
The young driver told NT News she had two choices - swerve and risk rolling her 1998 Mazda, or drive into the giant creature and hope for the best.

'There was no avoiding (the buffalo) at all,' she told the publication.
'We hit it on the back legs and it smashed into the windscreen. If it was a newer car it would probably have just crumbled… the airbags saved us.'
Thankfully Ms Bissaker, and her two passengers were uninjured.
The car was a total write-off, and unfortunately the buffalo died at the scene.
After the crash Ms Bissaker called one of her friends who lived nearby to pick her up and take her back home to Darwin.
The wreckage and dead buffalo were spotted by Darwin man Steve Hawkett later the same day.
'I looked in the car and I could see the airbags had inflated, but I couldn't see any blood,' Mr Hawkett said.
